What is affiliate marketing?
Affiliate marketing is a concept of marketing based on the exchange of profits between an advertiser (the owner of the product, service or offer) and a publisher or affiliate marketer. In affiliate marketing, the marketer (you) provides marketing services to the advertiser in exchange for receiving a commission. Affiliate marketing is based on the performance of the affiliate, who is compensated every time a visitor takes an engaging action after coming in contact with the promotional content.
What are the relationships in affiliate marketing?
Any affiliate marketing relationship involves four parties: a platform, a seller, an affiliate and the end consumer. but in terms of earnings, the relationship directly involves the seller and the affiliate. in effect, a seller refers to a business that seeks to connect with a wider audience to increase sales and the affiliate refers to a person who promotes the seller’s products or services in their blog or social networks like YouTube or pinterest. Vendors pay for each sale/conversion/click that an affiliate refers to the vendor.
Affiliates, or publishers, can be individuals or companies. They are usually bloggers or content creators who are in the same industry as the creators of the product or service they are promoting with content such as blog posts, videos or other resources.
They can also promote their own content to generate qualified leads through advertising, SEO traffic or list building.
When one of their visitors takes an action that converts them into a lead or customer, affiliates earn a commission based on the terms of their affiliate contract.
Also known as product developers or merchants, advertisers are those who develop the product or service that other individuals or companies of some prominence promote, in exchange for a fee in the form of a share or commission.
For example, a company that offers a commission to its affiliates when they lead their customers to make a purchase on its platform or a blogger who offers an affiliate program via his podcast.
Whether they are self-employed or large corporations, advertisers have only one obligation: to pay affiliates who help them generate transactions.
Sometimes advertisers are not the creators of the product, as is the case with the Amazon Partners Club.
Affiliate networks act as intermediaries between advertisers and affiliates. Merchants or product creators do not always use them, but these networks are useful to solidify the bond of trust between the two parties involved in the collaboration.
They manage the relationship between advertisers and affiliates, and have independent monitoring and auditing structures that are critical to reducing fraud rates. ClickBank and ShareASale are two of the most popular networks.
Some advertisers use a network because they lack the time or resources to track, manage, and report on affiliate compensation. With a wide selection of affiliates, the network also allows them to expand their collaborations.
Clickbank is an exemple of a network
Consumers, or customers, are visitors who perform an action, such as making a purchase or submitting a form, that earns affiliates their commission.
Payment models of affiliate marketing
The affiliate marketing strategy is based on a multitude of payment methods:
- Cost per click,
- Cost per lead,
- Cost per sale,
- Cost per view,
- Cost per link,
- Cost per signup, and many more.
Cost per sale
With the Cost Per Sale model, the seller pays a commission when an Internet user makes a purchase thanks to the online advertising set up by the advertiser. This is the most common payment method used in affiliate marketing strategies.
Cost per click
With the Cost Per Click (CPC) model, the seller pays a commission to the affiliate when a user clicks on one of their ads that redirects them to the seller’s website. For example, the user has clicked on a Google Ads or Facebook Ads, set up by the advertiser.
Cost Per Lead
With the Cost Per Lead model, the seller pays a commission to the vendor as soon as a user contacts the selling company by any means previously defined by the affiliate. This lead can be a quote request, a call or a subscription to a newsletter, for example.
What are affiliate networks?
An affiliate network is a platform that serves as an intermediary between the publisher (the affiliate) and the advertiser (the merchant). Advertisers create their affiliate programs on an affiliate network and publishers can search the network for programs they wish to promote. The affiliate network acts as a manager for both the publisher and the advertiser.
How do affiliate networks work?
For an affiliate network to work, advertisers and publishers must first register with the network. Once accepted, advertisers can add their affiliate programs to the network, and publishers have instant access to a wide variety of affiliate programs and promotional materials.
Publishers can apply to any program they wish to promote. Once accepted as an affiliate partner of the advertiser, they have access to a wide range of promotional or visual materials that can be used in various media, such as social networks, emails or websites.
Upon joining the network, the publisher is given a unique identifier, which is used to track the sales of each program they promote on the affiliate network. The publisher places the affiliate links on the promotional material; when potential customers click on the link, they are then directed to the advertiser’s site to complete their purchase. The ID is tracked by the affiliate network in order for the sale to be attributed to the publisher. Publishers and advertisers can access their dashboard at any time and view all aspects of the program on the affiliate network platform.
The advantage of affiliate networks is that advertisers can search and contact publishers directly to ask them to promote their products, but it is generally simpler and safer to use an affiliate network. An affiliate network takes care of all the factors involved in running an affiliate program, leaving you more time to manage the other aspects of your business.

How do I become an affiliate And Make Money?
To be honest, affiliate marketing is simple, but not easy either. I’ve been a full-time affiliate for many years and my strategy hasn’t changed much over the years.
I don’t use secret traffic sources, I don’t have any special industry connections, I don’t really network with other people in the industry, and to tell you the truth, I’m a little revolted by all the misconceptions out there about the best way to get into affiliate marketing.
What I’m about to share may not be exactly what you want to hear.
If you think succeeding in affiliate marketing is quick and easy, you’re way off base.
However, I will say it again, affiliate marketing is simple!
If you have the patience to succeed in affiliate marketing, you will have the chance to make more money than you ever dreamed possible.
Let’s get to the heart of the matter. Here are the five steps you’ll need to take to get started.
Step 1: Choose a good niche
Finding a niche is the key to getting started in affiliate marketing. You need to pick a good niche that interests you (preferably one that you’re passionate about) and that has enough monetization potential, but without too much competition.
But the problem is, since you are a newbie in affiliate marketing, how can you find a niche in an industry that interests you and has monetization potential, without too much competition?
Answer: You don’t know.
So, either go out into the jungle and try to figure it all out on your own, or save yourself weeks, months, or even years of wasted time and learn from knowledgeable people who have already learned this.
Beware, everyone will try to sell you something at some point.
This is the essence of marketing.
Since you are a beginner and can’t judge the value of the offer made to you, don’t buy anything right away.
Take advantage of the free advice, guides, tips and tricks that are offered to you for a while, without buying anything. That’s more than enough at this stage of the adventure.
Speaking of free, why not start right here on OneDigiClick with our free guide?
You’ll find everything you need to learn how to become a successful affiliate.
Step 2: Learn how to create an affiliate website.
To get started in affiliate marketing, I recommend you create a website.
Yes, you will have to learn how to build a website, but I assure you it really is a lot easier than you think.
Personally, I taught myself some HTML and CSS, but these days you don’t need to learn how to code to build your site from scratch.
What I do recommend, however, is that you learn how to create a site with the WordPress platform.
This is the same website platform we use for onedigiclick.com.
In fact, all of our sites are on WordPress. Most of you have probably heard of this CMS, but maybe you’re a little intimidated or have already tried to get started and felt lost, stuck, frustrated, and left never to return.
Welcome to affiliate marketing!
You will often find yourself in this type of situation, where you feel frustrated and ignorant.
Know that the real winners are the ones who fight and don’t give up.
In fact, the most difficult part of creating a website is setting it up.
There are tons of videos on YouTube that will walk you step-by-step through the process of creating a WordPress site from scratch.
Step 3: Create content, good content, great content.
There is a well-known phrase in the affiliate marketing industry that you may have heard before: Content is king
Quality content leads to targeted traffic, which you can then pre-sell by writing product reviews, in your own words.
There are a few exceptions to this rule, but personally, I’ve been using content marketing as my primary affiliate marketing strategy since day 1, and it has worked very well for me.
Articles and pages, full of interesting, original and fun content, I have created hundreds of them in my marketing life.
And that’s where most people run into trouble in affiliate marketing.
Finding a good niche is relatively easy; building a nice website is even easier; but creating dozens, even hundreds of pages of high quality content? Not so easy.
That’s where patience and perseverance come in.
Unlike the scammers who sell you bogus get rich quick schemes, I’m going to tell you the truth about how long it’s going to take.
By starting to create content on your website today, in 6-12 months you should be able to start earning money, assuming you work on the site for at least an hour or two every day.
However, you can save a lot of time by learning how to properly create content that will be appreciated by both your visitors and the search engines. You could also get a boost by making your content (articles, videos) go viral on social media.
Step 4: Implement your plan
Once you have chosen your niche, you have built your website and you have enough traffic, you must then choose a good product to promote on your site.
Let’s say you have created a website in the weight loss niche…
You can simply go to Google and type in “weight loss affiliate program” and you will see that there are dozens of affiliate platforms for this niche that you could join for free.clickbank is one of the best platforms.

Step 5: Reinvest the profits by outsourcing some tasks
Once you have an affiliate site that makes you money, it’s time to outsource.
You can hire freelance writers, find people to manage your social media campaigns, invest in various forms of advertising, hire a programmer to make your site look even better, and all sorts of other tasks.
You can find virtual assistants online on fiverr or upwork.
Most affiliate marketers, including myself, use virtual assistants to help with day-to-day tasks.
When you outsource or delegate, you regain control of your time, allowing you to build another site, and another, and another…

All these questions are legitimate, and every person deserves to receive accurate answers, but only a small percentage of people succeed in building a real business on the internet because most of them do not have the five essential qualities to succeed in the online business. You must always believe in yourself. Whatever your personality (or your skills), you can do it and get something to improve your daily life. So, first of all, be ambitious and stay motivated!
don’t expect to make “crazy money” without any effort. There are dozens of money-making techniques, but unfortunately no miracle solution.
